San Antonio Public Library’s Holocaust Learn and Remember series taking place throughout January

The San Antonio Public Library and The Holocaust Memorial Museum of San Antonio are presenting the 11th annual Holocaust Learn and Remember series from Jan. 3-29.

A news release said each year, the library commemorates International Holocaust Remembrance Day on Jan. 27 with a monthlong series of programming meant to honor and remember the victims and survivors of the Holocaust.

The series includes presentations by scholars, historians, authors and descendants of Holocaust survivors. Some programs will be offered in person, while others will be available online.

The release said the 2023 Learn and Remember series theme, “Censorship,” focuses on the Nazi regime’s use of various censorship tactics to restrict information from individuals persecuted during the Holocaust.

This theme will be interpreted through monthlong programming and an exhibit, “War of Ideas: Nazi Censorship and Book Burning,” which can be viewed at Cody Branch Library, 11441 Vance Jackson Road, through Jan. 15, and at Mission Branch Library, 3134 Roosevelt Ave., from Jan. 17-29.

The final program of the series features Anna Salton Eison, an author and a second-generation Holocaust survivor who will recount her accidental discovery as a youth of two watercolor paintings by her father that depict the horrors of the Holocaust.

This program will be presented at Mission Branch Library at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 23 and will be broadcast live on the library’s YouTube channel.
