A Judson ISD tax rate proposition has failed in Bexar County, according to unofficial voting results.
What you need to know
A total of 5,874 votes, or 39.99%, were cast for JISD's Proposition A, which would have increased the district's property tax rate by $0.045 per $100 valuation to $1.0796 per $100. A total of 8,813 votes, or 60.01%, were against the proposition.
Nicole Taguinod, assistant superintendent of employee and public relations, said in a Nov. 5 news release that despite the outcome, the district "remains committed to fiscal responsibility and providing the highest quality education to our students within our available resources."
Superintendent Milton "Rob" Fields III said in the release that while the district is disappointed in the result, "we respect the decision of our voters and appreciate everyone who participated in this important process."
"The failure of the VATRE means that our district will not have access to the $21 million in annual revenue it would have provided. As a result, we will need to make decisions in the months ahead to control costs while maintaining essential programs and supports for our students and staff," Fields said.
In the county, a total of 248,428 ballots were cast in unofficial totals, representing 19.31% of Bexar voters.

After early voting in Bexar County, over 60% of ballots have been cast against a Judson ISD tax rate proposition.
The overview
A total of 3,389 votes, or 38.95%, are for JISD’s Proposition A, which would increase the district’s property tax rate by $0.045 per $100 valuation to $1.0796 per $100 valuation. A total of 5,311 votes, or 61.05%, are against the proposition.
The district’s board of trustees officially called for the tax rate election, or VATRE, on Aug. 18. If approved, the VATRE would bring in approximately $21 million of revenue, according to the district.
The district called for the VATRE to address its budget shortfall, which sits at $27.57 million as of Oct. 16, according to board documents.
A total of 148,450 early votes were cast throughout Bexar County races, representing 11.54% of the county’s registered voters.
