Early vote totals for the period of April 24-May 2 showed Bexar County voters rejecting Proposition A, which called for six policing-related reforms via the city charter. Voters also overwhelmingly voted in favor of incumbents in San Antonio's mayoral and City Council contests.
Some 74.2% of votes cast during early voting were against Proposition A . The proposition is what advocates called a “justice charter,” which included decriminalizing lower levels of marijuana possession and expanding the San Antonio's Police Department's cite and release program where tickets are issued for legal infractions over an arrest.
Incumbent Mayor Ron Nirenberg already had 60.2% of the vote over eight opponents when Bexar County published its initial early voting totals after 7 p.m. May 6.
Among the north central San Antonio City Council races, incumbents Manny Pelaez in District 8 and John Courage in District 9 had solid leads after early voting totals were released.
