Voters within Cibolo District 5 will choose between four candidates for City Council District 5 on the May 6 ballot.
The District 5 seat was left vacant when Mark Allen was elected mayor in January.
Candidates include Shari McDaniel, Jeff McGlothin, Norma Sanchez Stephens and Joe Potts.
Following the canvassing of the votes, the elected candidate will serve until November 2024. During the November 2024 election, the District 5 seat will be transitioned into an at-large seat.

Why are you running for office?
As a resident of Cibolo for almost five years, I see the things that need to be changed in our city and all the challenges that come with rapid growth. I do not want to just sit and complain about all the problems of our city. Instead, I want to help find solutions and be an active part in shaping its future.
If elected, what will be your priorities?
I will work closely with city leaders to bring improvements to our city’s infrastructure. Expanding and repairing our roads, improving drainage, and adding more sidewalks for our pedestrian’s safety will be a priority. Also, encouraging new businesses to our community that will bring jobs, increase the city’s revenue, and help lower our property taxes.
Why are you running for office?
I am running for City Council, because I want to serve my city and be a voice for my neighbors. Our city is at a crucial stage with population growth and new businesses opening up. It will take creative thinking and fiscal responsibility to take our city to the next level, and I believe my background and experience would bode well on council.
If elected, what will be your priorities?
My priorities will be, increased infrastructure i.e. improving roads and building sidewalks in neighborhoods to enhance public safety, responsible commercial growth, working to make Cibolo a more preferred destination for businesses, funding public services, reducing property taxes for residents and creating a more balanced tax liability between businesses and residents, and soliciting community input and feedback regarding city initiatives.
Why are you running for office?
I am running because our growing city has specific needs and I can help work toward positive progress. As a five-year resident, we’ve experienced property tax increases every year and this creates challenges on family budgets. We need an improved quality of life from our city.
If elected, what will be your priorities?
When elected, I will advocate for responsible business growth to help lower property taxes, improve road and water infrastructure and support emergency services with staffing and resources.
Why are you running for office?
The concerns I have for my area are shared by many neighbors and other residents that have had the same complaints and concerns since I’ve lived here for the past eight years. My vast experience and work ethics would compliment the already experienced council to grow into the city we can enjoy and be greatly proud of.
If elected, what will be your priorities?
Roads, older neighbors, parks, sidewalks, water infrastructure, green spaces, safety of joggers, runners, equestrian travel, clarifying various zoning laws and equally important what are future plans for keeping our residence safe. Growing our future base (the youth) with apprenticeships and scholarships.
