San Antonio’s North East and Northside ISDs have both announced plans to continue providing free school breakfasts and lunches over the summer.
NEISD will provide free breakfasts and lunches to children age 18 and younger at 31 campuses during June and July, according to a school district news release.
“We know that hunger doesn’t end with the school year,” said Sharon Glosson, executive director of NEISD School Nutrition Services. “More than half of the families in NEISD are considered economically disadvantaged and depend on school meals for daily nutrition. The summer meal program gives children access to nutritious meals all summer.
According to NEISD Superintendent Sean Maika, meals will not be available for curbside pickup like during the COVID-19 pandemic, but students can eat inside participating schools, said.
