The Judson ISD board of trustees launched its search for a new superintendent in earnest with a specially called board meeting Jan. 24 to finalize a timeline for working with consultants Hazard Young Attea and Associates, or HYA.
Judson ISD found itself without its top leader when Superintendent Jeanette Ball resigned in November following closed-door discussions related to her annual performance evaluation. Neither the district nor Ball has issued a statement explaining why she resigned, but in her resignation agreement with the district, Ball did received a $140,000 payout.
Trustees agreed by consensus—after nearly two hours of discussion and negotiation on dates—to move forward with the proposed timeline, although Trustee Jose Macias did make note that the schedule can always be amended if it is needed.
Some key dates, according to the timeline, include board and stakeholder engagement interviews slated for Feb. 20-21; a slate of candidates presented to the the board March 27; board interviews in person with candidates April 10, 11, and 12; the announcement of a lone finalist on April 20; and the superintendent’s appointment on May 11.
