After the first half of the 2025-26 school year, Boerne ISD trustees on Feb. 23 reviewed the academic progress of elementary students taking third-party assessments.

When gauging prekindergarten growth, Chief Instructional Officer Larissa Flores said the district uses the Circle Progress Monitoring System.
For pre-K students, middle-of-year test results show an increase in scoring compared to the beginning of the school year in the subjects of reading, language and math. Writing and health/wellness scores saw slight decreases compared to the beginning of the year.
For Spanish pre-K students, all scores, with the exception of reading and math, saw a decrease. Flores attributes this drop to the assessment rubric, especially for subjects such as health/wellness.
“The beginning of the year expectation for health and wellness is actually very low to be considered on track,” Flores said. “But for the middle of the year, the expectations for the students triple.”
Flores said students are still making growth, just not at the levels specified in the program rubrics.
What else?
Students in kindergarten through fifth grade are screened using Northwest Evaluation Association Measures of Academic Progress, or NWEA MAP. This program focuses on math, and students are screened three times each year. Flores said students are showing growth in literacy and math.
For the MAP assessment, BISD is performing higher than the national average of 50%. Flores said second-grade students are showing the greatest improvement.
