Local business Northern D’Lights opens brick and mortar in Schertz

Krista and Parker Hallet work to make baked goods at Northern D’Lights, which opened May 3 in Schertz. The business previously operated out of a coffee trailer at local vendor markets before opening a restaurant.

“After COVID[-19] hit, my wife started baking full time. We did markets, sold out of the house, and then last year, I added a coffee trailer. Then, this place became available and we were able to fulfill her dream,” Parker Hallet said.

On the menu

They attribute their success to Krista Hallet’s Canadian roots, named after where her family is from in Prince Edward Island.

“The recipes are passed down from her grandmother and mother, and that's where the northern part of our name comes from, because she is actually from Canada. So, most of the recipes have a long heritage of her upbringing,” Parker said.

Popular items include their signature molasses cookie, a recipe from her grandmother and yeast cinnamon rolls. A small version of the molasses cookie comes with any handcrafted coffee or tea.

Northern D’Lights serves Italian-stle espresso, Italian sodas and a rotating dinner menu.
