San Antonio Housing Trust board approves long-range plan

The San Antonio Housing Trust board on Oct. 25 approved a comprehensive five-year strategic plan, which organization officials said is designed to tackle housing affordability needs throughout the city.

According to a news release, the plan was developed with guidance and input from stakeholders from across the community, including advocacy groups, institutional organizations, developers and community groups that work with residents.

The five-year strategic plan establishes a set of core values that promotes equity and transparency while providing a path for meaningful impact, SAHT officials said.

The strategic planning process was designed to align the housing trust’s efforts with the city of San Antonio’s strategic housing implementation plan, which establishes goals, timelines, actions, funding approaches and institutional partners, such as the SAHT, who are critical to achieving the affordable housing production and preservation needs, the release said.

According to the plan, long-term objectives for the housing trust include clarifying the SAHT’s role in the local housing system, investing in the trust’s capacity to grow, facilitating preservation of affordable rental housing, contributing to construction of new affordable rental housing, supporting neighborhood preservation efforts, and engaging in advocacy at local, state and federal levels.

“Our goal is to help drive long-term sustainable change as our housing ecosystem continues to grow and evolve. This roadmap guides our efforts to address our city’s housing supply needs while also seeking to remove barriers to creating and preserving housing that is affordable,” SAHT Executive Director Pete Alanis said.
