Schertz City Council to hold workshop on public improvement districts March 28

Schertz City Council on March 28 will hold a workshop to provide an overview of public improvement districts.

This discussion is due to a group of residents pursuing a petition for the City Council to establish a district in the former Northcliffe Golf Course area.

According to city definitions, public improvement districts are used to fund new or improve inadequate or substandard infrastructure and public services in a specific area.

During the Feb. 28 City Council meeting, the first reading of an ordinance to rezone approximately 25 acres of land in the area to a planned development district with a base zoning of townhome district was approved.

According to plans from the developer, the updated development would include approximately 198 units of townhomes rather than the original 220 fourplexes planned.

On March 8, council tabled the second reading of the rezoning ordinance, postponing the discussion until the April 4 meeting.

The March 28 workshop will be held during the regular meeting, which begins at 6 p.m. and will be held at the Civic Center, 1400 Schertz Parkway.
