Blake Murdoch said he’s traveled to countless gyms across the country, most of them offering at least one thing unique and useful—but none of them had everything he wanted.

That’s why Murdoch decided to open MURFIT Fitness Club in Boerne, a growing local gym focused on nurturing all athletes of all skill levels.

What’s special about it?

After first opening in May 2024, both Blake and Sage Murdoch created a set of values for the gym to run by.

“We have four pillars that we focus on—mental, spiritual, emotional and physical,” Murdoch said. “These are crucial aspects that can help anyone reach their fitness goals.”

Rather than specifically targeting clientele like bodybuilders or CrossFit trainers, Murdoch said he wanted to take his 16 years of personal training experience and create a place that anyone could enjoy.

“Everyone can fit in here, no matter the age, sport, or skill level,” Murdoch said.

After a few recent renovation projects that doubled the size of the gym, the now 11,000-square-foot fitness center contains an open space layout filled with state-of-the-art lifting equipment, machines, free weights, and more, according to Murdoch.

“We saw a lot of good pieces from other gyms and brought them all together here at MURFIT,” Murdoch said.

Here are some of the amenities and services offered at MURFIT Fitness:
  • 24/7 member access
  • 1,000-square-foot studio
  • 40-foot turf field
  • Locker rooms and showers
  • Personal training staff
  • Massage therapist
  • Group fitness classes of all sizes
  • Special member events
In February, Murdoch said new cold plunges and a sauna will be available to members as a part of the gym’s continued expansion.

The local impact

Overall, Murdoch said it's not the equipment, expansion, or amenities at the gym that make it a rewarding place to be—it’s the people, trainers and other members.

“Equipment doesn’t change lives, it’s the coaches, people and service here that will,” Murdoch said. “Whether you have loads of fitness experience or are coming here for the first time, we want MURFIT to be a place where you can improve not just your fitness, but your life.”

Murdoch said committing to fitness goals is a “lifelong investment,” making MURFIT’s services undeniably useful.

In the future, Murdoch said yet another expansion project is planned to further enhance the member experience—the business is taking over the suite next door to open a new kids’ area for parents to utilize while they workout.
