GameStop is shuttering stores across the country, including the Boerne location, which will permanently close on Jan. 8, according to signage posted at the store.

Known for selling video games, electronics and memorabilia, Texas-based GameStop was founded in 1984.

Following the closure of the Boerne location, the closest GameStop is located at The Rim, at 17503 La Cantera Parkway, Ste. 102, San Antonio.

In a 2025 annual report to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, or SEC, GameStop Corp. highlighted the closure of 590 stores in the United States during fiscal year 2024-25. In its fiscal year 2025 plans, the company noted anticipation of additional store closures in FY 2025-26, which ends in February.


“We have also initiated a comprehensive store portfolio optimization review, which involves identifying stores for closure based on many factors, including an evaluation of current market conditions and individual store performance,” the company stated in the March 2025 filing.

As of publication time, a full list of store closures has not been released.
