Round Rock City Council approved another wave of funding for the ongoing Brushy Creek Regional Utility Authority’s deep water intake project in October.
The funding comes in the form of $12.2 million in debt issued as city bonds.
About the project
The intake project is insurance against drought periods, as previously reported by Community Impact, allowing the BCRUA to pump water from lower depths of Lake Travis. Round Rock, along with partner cities Cedar Park and Leander, uses the lake as a source of drinking water.
The project, which began in 2022, includes the construction of a 2-mile pipeline delivering water from intake screens to a new pump station. A 78-inch raw water transmission tunnel and pipeline will move the pumped water to existing Cedar Park, Leander and BCRUA water treatment plants.
