Following a supply-chain-driven delay of electrical vehicles approved for purchase in February, Round Rock City Council approved a purchase agreement for conventional gas-powered vehicles Nov. 3.
Chad McDowell, Round Rock general services director, said the nine Ford Lightning F-150s purchased by the city had been "cut" for this year and delayed to the next. He said the purchase is necessary to maintaining ongoing city operations in the meantime.
"With supply chain issues out there, a lot of our current orders have been delayed," McDowell said. "Ford called us and said, 'You're not going to get them this year.'"
Council approved the $1 million contract with Lake Country Chevrolet Inc. to be paid from the city's vehicle and equipment replacement funds.
