Increases to fees for city facility rentals, water park admission
City officials approved a measure to increase some usage fees for sports and recreation facilities. Parks & Recreation Department Director Rick Atkins said the increases reflect improvements to these facilities, he said, and remain some of the lowest compared to neighboring areas.
The details
Changes to entry and reservation fees are under consideration for the following facilities:
- Rock'N River Water Park: $6 increase in price for day pass tickets, $18 for youth tickets and $20 for adults. This is accompanied by a $10 increase to the cost of family passes, bringing the fee to $245 for a family of four.
- Baseball and softball: Atkins said the proposed daily rental rate of $200 is an increase of $140. Lighting fees will also increase from $18 to $25 per hour.
- Pavilions: Rental rates for standard neighborhood pavilions owned by the city will increase to $100. Specific pavilions targeted for a different rate increase. This includes the Backyard Pavilion, up to $300 for four hours and $50 for each additional hour, and the Lakeview Pavilion, up to $600 for four hours and $100 for each additional hour.
Additional information about the fee changes is available on the council's online meeting agenda.
Annexation of property near northeast corner of Chandler Road and SH 130
Council approved the annexation of 8.53 acres of property at the northeast corner of SH 130 and Chandler Road in the city's extraterritorial jurisdiction, dispensing with a second reading.
The property is occupied by a QuickTrip gas station and convenience store. In addition to its annexation into city limits, Council approved a zoning for the property of C1-a for commercial use, with some limitations. The zoning opens the property up for future redevelopment, city staff said, with building heights of up to 12 stories allowed.
Trail-focused update to mixed-use development plan approved
Council approved a request to amend a planned unit development zoning for a 110.54-acre property located near the southwest intersection of Kenney Fort Boulevard and East Palm Valley Boulevard at an upcoming meeting. Included in the proposed amendment is a shift from a mixed-use development with a "Main Street" focus to one with a trail-oriented design.
The request received initial approval from the city's Planning & Zoning Commission in March.
In an April 21 council packet briefing, Planning & Development Services Director Brad Dushkin said this would be the first such design concept in the city of Round Rock.
The details
The property includes a portion of Brushy Creek at its southern border, and the proposal would relocate a portion of the regional trail along the creek farther from its banks, to connect with commercial, residential and private outdoor recreational opportunities, the amendment states.
The change is recommended by city staff and comes at the request of The Drenner Group, representing the developer, Milhaus.
Additional plans in the proposed amendment include a pedestrian-friendly paseo, similar to the one in downtown Round Rock, lined by ground-floor retail with multifamily housing from the second floor up.
