A 7-acre property near the border of Georgetown and Round Rock will be purchased for a future Round Rock fire station and a shared water pump station to serve residents of both cities.

Round Rock City Council on June 25 approved a measure to purchase property near the intersection of CR 110 and University Boulevard. A 2.5-acre parcel will be designated for a future fire station, and a 4.5-acre parcel will be set aside for a water tank and pump station. The latter will serve residents of both cities, Round Rock Public Works Director Michael Thane said in a June 23 packet briefing.
About the project
The land is owned by the Nelson family and would be purchased for a total of $2.54 million, to be paid using a combination of remaining American Rescue Plan Act funds and the city's self-financed construction fund, which is generated from sales tax revenue. Thane said the city's remaining ARPA funds must be spent by the end of the year.
The details
In the packet briefing, Round Rock Fire Department Chief Shane Glaiser said the location of the future fire station was decided using response time modeling to determine what would best enhance coverage in the area. It will be a four-bay station, similar to the design of the city's most recent station builds.
