$70M expansion to regional water line moves forward in Round Rock

A $70 million project to increase water pumping capacity between Lake Georgetown and Lake Stillhouse Hollow will receive funding from the city of Round Rock, after officials approved a contract for the city's share of costs in July.

Officials authorized the Brazos River Authority to issue bonds to fund the project in a July 9 meeting. The city of Round Rock owns 28% of infrastructure and will be responsible for 28% of the total cost, which would be roughly $19.6 million, said Round Rock Public Works Director Michael Thane.

The details

The project's scope will include the addition of a new water pump to the regional pipeline and the replacement of several older pumps, per city documents. These improvements will increase pump capacity from 40 million gallons per day to 56 million gallons per day.

The 28-mile pipeline transports water from Lake Stillhouse Hollow to Lake Georgetown, where the city of Round Rock, Brushy Creek Municipal Utility District and the city of Georgetown have intake structures to transport water.
