Round Rock ISD superintendent says district may convene citizens' bond committee

A citizens' bond committee, or CBC, may soon be called in Round Rock ISD, Superintendent Hafedh Azaiez said, following an update to the district's long-range facilities master plan.

What happened

With a recent update to the district's master plan for the long-range management of its facilities coming to a close, the board of trustees discussed on March 28 whether the superintendent might call a citizens' bond committee to evaluate whether there is need for a bond election. This committee is an administrative committee, Board President Amber Landrum said, and the superintendent does not require the board's approval to call for nominations from trustees to serve on such a body.

What's next

Azaiez said the CBC could recommend a bond package for any of the the upcoming November or 2025 election cycles, but it would be ultimately up to the board to put the proposition on the ballot. Nothing is set at this point, he said.

To call a bond election for November, the board would have to approve a CBC proposal by August, he said.

"It's going to be up to the CBC and the board to look at the work already completed by the long-range facilities plan," Azaiez said.

The long-range facilities master plan update will be presented during the April 11 board meeting, Azaiez said.
