Round Rock's Party Chaos fills need, plans expansion

Seven months after opening its doors in Round Rock, independent celebration shop Party Chaos is already looking to open its second store.

The big picture

Owner Larry Dugar and Manager Jossie Rodriguez said they have over a decade of combined experience in the party store industry. Both previously worked for Party City, and when the Round Rock store shuttered, they saw an opportunity.

"When Party City closed, it did not stop the demand," Dugar said. "It's a $4.6 billion industry. You just left a demand gap in this industry with almost a thousand Party City [stores] closing. So we took the opportunity and took advantage to help fill and cover that gap."

Now, the business partners are evaluating potential homes in Central Texas for a second Party Chaos location.

What they offer

In addition to stocking party supplies, costumes, gift wrap, decor and other essentials, Party Chaos offers custom balloon garlands, arches and stands as well as faux floral arrangements.

Dugar said the service provided at Party Chaos functions as a hands-on design studio for event and party planning. Party supplies can be purchased anywhere, he said, but the store's team works with customers to plan decor for parties, fundraisers, weddings and other events.

In their own words

Rodriguez said some of her favorite experiences with customers come from the bespoke services the store offers. From a same-day order for a balloon arch to creative staging and decoration for fundraisers, she said connecting with clients is rewarding.

"We get involved in whatever occasion they have going on," Rodriguez said. "We're actually a part of it. It turns personal. I have customers that I know their family because I plan for them. I'm involved with the kids, the party, and it's like they're not only my customers, but my friends."
