Three candidates, including two incumbents, have filed to run for Hutto City Council's Place 1 and Place 4 seats
On Aug. 17, Council formally postponed its May general election to November, with the delay attributed to the coronavirus pandemic. An initial postponement was approved by council March 30.
Under Section 3.14 of the city's emergency charter, emergency ordinances can be approved under a single reading as opposed to the traditional two-reading requirement, City Attorney Dottie Palumbo said during council's Aug. 11 meeting.
Palumbo said that the March 30 postponement was valid in accordance with the charter. However, based on concerns raised surrounding the ordinance and postponement, Palumbo said she included an updated ordinance for council's consideration in August that took into account Gov. Greg Abbott's July 27 emergency order to extend the early voting period.
