Technology company announces relocation to Pflugerville

The Pflugerville Community Development Corp. announced May 28 the addition of Thin-nology, a virtual office solutions provider, to the 130 Commerce Center in the eastern part of the city.

Thin-nology, founded in 2004, offers cloud computing, which allows businesses to outsource technology and data, according to the company website. While the company's headquarters are already located in Pflugerville at 15901 Central Commerce Drive, Ste. 402, its servers are in Austin. Thin-ology is set to build an 8,600-square-foot facility at the 130 Commerce Center that will include office space and a data center, combining its headquarters and servers, according to a news release.

"Outsourcing [information technology] is really where the industry is moving, so Thin-nology is positioned for growth and long-term success," Thin-nology President Kathryn Grona said in the release. "We wanted to stay in Central Texas because of the economy, and we chose Pflugerville because it is so pro-business."

With the relocation, Thin-nology will receive incentives not to exceed $70,000 based on development, creating jobs and employee retention. The business purchased the space for $80,834.29, according to the sales contract.

The city agreed to reimburse the business for development costs up to $20,000, moving costs up to $10,000 and give the business $4,000 for each job created up to $40,000. The jobs must be created within 3 years of Thin-nology receiving its certificate of occupancy and offer medical benefits. A performance agreement between Thin-nology and PCDC also requires that with the new jobs, the average Thin-nology salary be at least $60,000

PCDC Executive Director Floyd Akers said the economic impact of having the business in Pflugerville will more than pay back the city's investment in the company. Revenue generated from utility use, selling land to Thin-nology and having its employees eat and shop in Pflugerville will bring in additional money. Other factors, such as expanding its employment base, will also benefit the city.

"It's a local Pflugerville company, and we look for companies like Thin-nology that are expanding and help them do that," Akers said. "The return on the investment for the city is under five years just based on the property tax we're going to collect."
