Pflugerville ISD's newly installed solar panels could save the district $1 million over the life of the solar-power project, according to school officials.
Financial incentives from the city of Austin and reduced electricity costs will help make the savings possible, according to a June 2 PISD news release.
All told, PISD Chief Financial Officer Kenneth Adix said the district will receive about $3.9 million through an Austin Energy incentive program and avoid $6.9 million in electricity bills by using power from the solar panels.
The panels will generate more than 2.7 million kilowatt-hours of renewable energy, cut district operating costs and help the environment, said PISD communications coordinator Tamra Spence.
