RRISD, Round Rock discusses RM 620 improvements

The City of Round Rock gave a presentation March 21 at the Round Rock ISD board of trustees meeting to discuss improvements to RM 620 from Deepwood Drive to I-35.

John Dean, a City of Round Rock transportation planner, said that although a detailed design of the renovations is not finished, the city plans to work with Alan Albers, RRISD's executive director of operations and facilities, on a sound design.

One of the proposed solutions includes building a roundabout at Chisholm Trail Road and RM 620, Dean said. He said research indicates the roundabout seems to be the safest, most cost-efficient and feasible option.

Dean said that in addition to safety, the improvements are also to prepare for future growth.

About 45,000 vehicles use RM 620 per day, which serves as a primary route to Round Rock High School, St. David's Round Rock Medical Center and multiple neighborhoods to the west, Dean said. In about 20 years, that number is projected to increase to more than 60,000.

Dean said he expects to receive environmental clearance for the projects in April. More background on the RM 620 renovations is also availabe here.

The board of trustees nominated Superintendent Jess Chvez for the Texas Association of School Boards' Superintendent of the Year Award. The award is presented at the Texas Association of School Administrators and Texas Association of School Boards' convention Sept. 27–29 in Dallas.
