Pflugerville library gets new look, name

Patrons can now view expansions to the Pflugerville Public Library from a new entrance at 1008 W. Pfluger St.

The first phase of the library's expansion project was completed Jan. 19. The newly renovated space includes the library's entire collection of books, a great hall, a new children's area and a living area that will house the library's media collection.

"We're so excited," Library Director Lisa Charbonnet said. "I love to show people the color and beauty and natural light in the building."

Renovations to the area that once housed the library's book collection are in progress, and when completed this spring will include seven meeting rooms, a space for teens with a quiet reading area, a genealogy section and a technology bar for laptops and other devices.

"We realize there are many, many communities in Pflugerville, and we think there's a space for just about all of them [in the library]," Charbonnet said.

Pflugerville City Council also approved changing the library's name to the Pflugerville Public Library from the Pflugerville Community Library at its meeting Jan. 22.

According to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, community libraries are those that serve smaller populations, while public libraries serve populations of 30,000 people or more.

"Now that Pflugerville is 50,000 people, we think it's time to grow up and become a public library," Charbonnet said.
