Add barbecue sauce manufacturer to the list of businesses drawn to Pflugerville in part by the Pflugerville Community Development Corp.
The PCDC has used a variety of financial incentives to help entice multimillion-dollar hotels and businesses, including a water park and a tortilla chip factory, to locate in town.
But a recent deal shows the PCDC is not opposed to placing smaller bets on local businesses.
The PCDC approved cutting a $7,500 check Oct. 9 to help jump-start Daniel Caldwell's budding barbecue sauce manufacturing business.
"He's invented a pretty tasty sauce," PCDC Executive Director Floyd Akers said.
Akers said Caldwell has an agreement with Adams Food Group to commercialize his barbecue sauce. The food group will test the product and help with labeling, among other matters, he said.
The PCDC executed the $7,500 check to Adams Food Group. Caldwell signed a performance agreement with the PCDC agreeing to keep his commercial kitchen in Pflugerville for the next three years and to try to hire one full-time employee in the year after signing the agreement, Akers said.
"Hopefully he'll be super successful, and there will be a lot more than one employee," Akers said.
