In turnaround, El Lago still likely to relocate to Pflugerville

The El Lago tortilla factory's relocation to Pflugerville appears to be back on track.

Floyd Akers, executive director of the Pflugerville Community Development Corp., said El Lago is in the process of being acquired by another company, which has delayed the company's move. Akers said he was not at liberty to discuss which company is buying El Lago.

"We fully anticipate that move will occur here in the future," Akers said Aug. 22. "[El Lago] informed us, through the landlord, that they intend to honor their obligation and move into the building."

The tortilla and chip maker's move to Pflugerville was in limbo in mid-August.

At that time communication between El Lago and the PCDC had stopped. The developer had also indicated to the PCDC that there were issues with the relocation, a PCDC executive said.

The PCDC has offered incentives worth up to $60,000 to help bring the company to town.

El Lago was expected to relocate its East Austin factory to Pflugerville's 130 Commerce Center, a business park at SH 130 and Pecan Street, in mid-August. That has yet to happen.

Akers said he did not know when the relocation would take place, and negotiations could take some time. He also said El Lago signed a lease agreement and put down a deposit.
