The city of Hutto joined Williamson County in an effort to extend Ed Schmidt Boulevard from Limmer Loop to Chandler Road. Council members voted 6-0 to pay $1 million, or 10 percent of the total construction cost, whichever is less. The distance is less than a mile. City Engineer and interim Assistant City Manager Danielle Singh said the county will finalize design on the project and extend a payment program over two years to the city. Singh said construction could start this summer and take a year, but a timeline hasn’t been officially issued. City Manager Odis Jones said the extension is a “main piece to drive the revenue stream.” He said the road extension could open access to 6,000-7,000 acres of property for development, and there is already interest from a potential developer. Other projects were discussed as part of the capital improvement plan for council to consider in the upcoming budget process.
