Hutto holds first reading for annexation of 58 acres

The City of Hutto held the first reading for the annexation of about 58 acres near CR 108 and Toll 130 on May 17.

The total annexation area is 617 acres, but some of the landowners signed development agreements with the city, which allows land used for timber, wildlife or agricultural purposes to remain outside of city limits for 15 years.

The city had planned to annex 90 acres, but council members decided not to annex 13 properties along CR 109 after listening to a property owner in that area who was against the annexations.

During the public hearing, Luke Kuss said the property owners in that area already had adequate services.

"I don't think that there is anything that your annex is going to offer to us," he said.

Council members then withdrew 32 acres from the annexation. Councilwoman Ronnie Quintanilla-Perez said the city may annex the area in the future, but it does not seem necessary at this time.

The second reading of the annexation ordinance is scheduled for June 7.
