Cortec to relocate to 130 Commerce Center

The Pflugerville City Council approved an agreement at its March 12 meeting to bring California-based Cortec Precision Sheetmetal Inc. to the 130 Commerce Center in the east side of the city.

Cortec was previously located on A.W. Grimes Boulevard in Round Rock. After leaving its old location, the site will be repurposed as a light industrial park.

The company will construct two buildings at the 130 Commerce Center, which is located on the corner of Pecan Street and SH 130; one 100,000-square-foot manufacturing facility and another 30,000–50,000-square-foot building. Construction must be complete within three years, according to an agreement Cortec signed with the Pflugerville Community Development Corp.

"We wanted to ensure that we are supporting this business in its need to expand in Central Texas while also helping both Round Rock and Pflugerville ultimately increase capital investments and add more jobs," PCDC Executive Director Floyd Akers said in a news release. "It's a win-win for the region to keep jobs and capital investment here."

Once the new facilities are completed, the company plans to hire an additional 25 employees, bringing its total to 100 jobs with an average salary of $42,000.

The PCDC and city are giving Cortec a total of $456,000 in economic incentives, including up to $57,000 in tax abatements from the city with the PCDC matching up to $57,000 in grants. PCDC also sold the company 8 acres for its new site at a reduced cost.

A survey by Impact DataSource estimated the company will bring 200 direct and indirect jobs, as well as $19 in taxable sales and $20 million in additional tax revenue to the city over its first 15 years.

Charles Harvey, a commercial real estate broker and vice president with Don Quick and Associates, represented PCDC in the agreement, and Don Quick and Associates President Darren Quick represented Cortec.
