Residents in Round Rock ISD have until Thursday to submit comments online regarding the district's plan to change attendance areas at four of its middle schools. Comments can be submitted to the district's website at www.roundrockisd.org/msattendancearea16. The proposal would redraw attendance areas for Cedar Valley, Chisholm Trail, Deerpark and Walsh middle schools to create a new attendance area for the future Pearson Ranch Middle School, set to open in August 2017, and to ease overcrowding in existing schools, according to RRISD officials. Several hundred people attended an RRISD board of trustees meeting in September to view the first public presentation of the plan. Some parents have criticized changes to RRISD's middle school feeder pattern and have argued that requiring some students to change schools will disrupt the students' education and social lives. RRISD trustees are expected to vote Nov. 17 on changing the attendance areas. The district began taking public comment online Sept. 16. District staff will present a final recommendation to trustees on Oct. 20, which will include public feedback on the proposal, according to the district. Any changes to attendance areas would take effect before the 2017-18 school year. The proposal does not include changes to boundaries for RRISD’s elementary or high schools.
