Round Rock City Council approved the rezoning of 19.35 acres near South I-35 and Chisholm Trail Road on Nov. 26. In response to a proposal by developer David Weekley Homes for a 115 single-family condominium project, council voted 5-2 to rezone an area previously designated for industrial development.
“This residential request conflicts with the industrial designation,” Round Rock Director of Development Brad Wiseman said prior to the vote. “Staff does not support the rezoning due to the land-use conflict. It has nothing to do specifically with this project. The project itself is a really nice proposal, and the developers have been great to work with.”
Council Members Rene Flores and Hilda Montgomery voted against the rezoning request.
“I expressed some concerns yesterday about the potential for noise and inconvenience but really for the people who will purchasing this product,” Flores said. “They are surrounded by industrial in three parts.”
