During a global pandemic that has had firsthand effects on Hutto's local businesses, schools, city operations and community, one mother-daughter duo has taken it upon themselves to provide masks for those on the front lines.
The city of Hutto posted a video to its Facebook page April 17 honoring the contributions of Riise Prochaska and Kyra Thomas Moore, who have made more than 250 face masks during the COVID-19 outbreak. Four out of every 5 masks created have been donated, with specific contributions to Hutto Fire & Rescue.
"When we started realizing that masks were going to be a necessity, it was kind of a no brainer," Prochaska said. "We wanted to support our families, support our friends, support our small community."
Per the video, Prochaska and Thomas Moore spend up to eight hours a day creating the masks. It was especially important to the two of them, Thomas Moore said, to allocate resources to Hutto Fire & Rescue for their work in protecting citizens' safety during the pandemic.
