Against the backdrop of a global pandemic, surgical masks remain in short supply across the world and close to home. Volunteers who are sewing surgical masks now have three drop-off locations in Round Rock to donate masks to local first responders and health care workers.
Residents are encouraged to drop off sewn masks as well as close-weaved fabric and elastic that can be used to make masks at the Central Fire Station, Public Safety Training Center and Fire Logistics Building.
Masks will be collected and laundered at a city of Round Rock fire station with a CDC-approved disinfectant, according to information provided by the city. After being disinfected, the masks will be distributed to fire, police, EMS and area health care workers.
