For the fifth consecutive year, the number of homeless individuals in Dallas and Collin counties has decreased, according to Point in Time count numbers released by homelessness advocacy organization Housing Forward in May.
The PIT count is a count of homeless individuals on one night in January, and it provides a “snapshot” of what homelessness looks like on a single night in the community, according to the Texas Homeless Network.
The 2026 count occurred Jan. 22. Of the 3,513 homeless individuals counted in Collin and Dallas counties, 15 were in Richardson.

Here’s a noncomprehensive list of organizations offering support to the homeless in Richardson.
Care Church Food Pantry
What they offer: Individuals living in Richardson and Richardson ISD’s attendance zones can visit for food once every 28 days. The pantry is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon-2:30 p.m. and the first Monday of each month from 6-7 p.m.
How to help: The pantry accepts monetary donations and unopened packaged, canned and frozen foods, toiletries and diapers. Those interested in volunteering can call the pantry at 972-234-2270 to help at the pantry or greet clients.
Local Good Food Pantry
What they offer: The drive-thru pantry takes appointments for food on Thursdays from 8 a.m.-noon and Saturdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
How to help: Those interested in volunteering can sign up or fill out a volunteer interest form on Local Good’s website. The pantry also accepts financial donations, food and key supplies.
Network of Community Ministries
What they offer: The nonprofit organization offers a variety of services for those in need, including food, clothing and utility assistance. Network of Community Ministries also provides mental health services at no cost and programs that offer school supplies and toys to children.
How to help: Network of Community Ministries accepts food, new or like-new clothing and monetary donations. Clothing can be dropped off at any time, but food must only be dropped off when Network is open; times can be found online. Volunteers can sign up individually or as a group in one of Network’s many programs, and more information can be found online.
