Relief could be on the horizon for Prosper residents traversing FM 1385.
The Texas Department of Transportation has added $38.2 million for construction of FM 1385 to its 10-year plan for transportation projects, said Travis Campbell, director of transportation, planning and development for TxDOT’s Dallas district.
FM 1385 will be six lanes at full buildout, and TxDOT will start by widening the roadway to four lanes with curbs and gutters, he said.
Campbell provided an update on the department’s plans for FM 1385 at a Sept. 22 Prosper Town Council work session.
The specifics
FM 1385 will eventually be improved from US 380 to Union Park, according to Campbell’s presentation.
TxDOT has broken the project into three segments:
Segment 1: US 380 to Union Park Boulevard
Segment 2: Union Park Boulevard to Cotton Trail
Segment 3: Cotton Trail to FM 455
In August, the Texas Transportation Commission approved $38.2 million to widen the first segment to four lanes as part of TxDOT’s 2027 Unified Transportation Program, Campbell said.
The Unified Transportation Program is a plan, not an official allocation of funds, so it is subject to change, he said.
Based on the 2027 program, construction on FM 1385 would not start until at least 2030, per the presentation.
The approach
Campbell hopes to move up the construction timeline by ensuring the groundwork for the project is complete in case an earlier funding opportunity arises, he said.
“We are aggressively looking for ways to accelerate this project,” Campbell said.
Right-of-way acquisition, design and utility relocation, which use a different funding source, are already underway.
Right-of-way acquisition is on track to be completed in October 2026, and design work is roughly 95% complete, Campbell said.
Once designs are complete, utility relocation can start in early 2027, he said.
