US 380 construction, Walmart renovations: 6 trending Dallas-Fort Worth stories

Construction is set to wrap up soon on US 380 in Denton County, while Walmart plans to remodel five stores in Dallas-Fort Worth.

1. Relieving the pressure: $136M US 380 project adds overpasses, reduces congestion

After years of construction, the Texas Department of Transportation is nearing completion of its $135.9 million US 380 improvement project in Denton County, with final work expected to wrap up sometime in April. The project added overpasses at five major intersections, improved medians and turn lanes, and constructed an additional lane in each direction along the corridor. However, remaining construction on the Collin County segment is still years out from finishing.

2. Walmart to remodel 5 stores across Dallas-Fort Worth

Walmart plans to remodel 72 stores across Texas, including several in Dallas-Fort Worth, according to a news release from the company. The stores that will see updates this year include locations in Allen, Denton, McKinney, Plano and Fort Worth.

3. Frisco council approves 98-acre warehouse development off SH 121

A new 98-acre warehouse could be coming soon to south Frisco. Frisco City Council voted at an April 21 meeting to approve repealing a previous ordinance and granting a specific use permit for the project. The warehouse project, developed by EastGroup Properties, will provide over a million square feet of office and industrial space across 11 buildings.

4. McKinney council approves rezoning for Cannon Beach project

McKinney city leaders approved new zoning to accommodate the future Cannon Beach surf resort at the northeast corner of Stacy Road and SH 121. The 58-acre site is being rezoned as a planned development district that allows a mix of uses expected at the future surf park. Preliminary plans include retail, restaurant and office space in addition to a 150-room hotel.

5. The Butterbeer Parlour offers Harry Potter-themed tastes, treats at McKinney Walmart through May 2

The Butterbeer Parlour is open and offering free treats at Walmart in west McKinney for a limited time. The family-friendly Harry Potter pop-up shop is celebrating Butterbeer Season, and is offering Harry Potter-themed activities and samples.

6. Grapevine council approves special use permit for Fellowship Church expansion

Fellowship Church in Grapevine plans to add covered sports courts and a building addition to its campus. Grapevine City Council approved a special use permit for the church’s 60,000-square-foot expansion on April 21. The proposed expansion will allow Fellowship Church to construct a 1,200-seat worship center and covered sports courts for basketball and pickleball.
