Students at Lykins Elementary, as well as some students from Martin, Bothwell and Vasquez elementary schools, could be rezoned under Celina ISD’s proposed attendance boundaries for the 2027-28 school year.
The district is redrawing its elementary school attendance zones to prepare for three schools set to open in fall 2027:
Senior Chief Jason Johnston presented the proposed attendance boundaries at an Oct. 26 CISD board of trustees meeting.
The details
According to the proposed attendance zones, students currently zoned for Martin Elementary who live east of Preston Road would be rezoned to Calvert Elementary.
The current zoning for Lykins Elementary and Bothwell Elementary would be redistributed among Bothwell Elementary, Scott Elementary and Grumbles Elementary.
Vasquez Elementary’s northern attendance boundary would also shift slightly to accommodate Calvert Elementary’s opening, according to the proposed rezoning.

“We’re trying to make sure that every time we draw the lines, people are moving closer to their homes,” Johnston said.
Some context
For the 2026-27 year, Willard Middle School opened as a campus for grades 5-6 and the existing Moore Middle School served grades 7-8.
CISD elementary schools temporarily shifted to serve only grades K-4, which helped relieve capacity issues, district officials said.
This configuration will continue for the 2027-28 school year. District officials expect to shift the grade-level configuration back so fifth-grade students attend elementary school campuses in fall 2028, according to the district’s website.
Get involved
Parents can visit the district’s attendance zone web page to see which campus their child would attend based on the proposed boundary adjustments.
Community members will be able to provide in-person feedback on the proposed changes at the district’s listening sessions:
Nov. 2, 5:30 p.m., at Bothwell Elementary
Nov. 3, 5:30 p.m., at Martin Elementary
Residents from anywhere in the district can attend either meeting, Johnston said.
Based on the community’s feedback, district officials plan to finalize the 2027-28 attendance boundaries at the board’s next meeting in November.
