Improvements underway along Legacy Drive in Plano

Construction at the intersection of Legacy Drive and Independence Parkway began in March, and other intersections are expected to be completed by the end of the year, Lipscomb said, adding that the project at Legacy Drive and Hedgcoxe Road should be finished in May.

Assistant Director of Public Works Carrie Jones said work between Coit Road and Custer Road along Legacy Drive is to allow for concrete repairs on the road and sidewalk fixes. An asphalt overlay is planned for the road section after repairs, which will go lane by lane along the street.

The whole project is slated to conclude in October 2025, Jones said.

Funding for the over $4.2 million Legacy Corridor project comes from a few sources, including regional toll funding, Collin County bond funds and proceeds from city bonds, Lipscomb said. The Legacy Drive and Hedgcoxe Road intersection cost is about $750,000 but is part of a larger four-intersection project totaling more than $2.8 million and funded through the 2021 bond.

Jones said the cost for the road and sidewalk repairs along with the asphalt overlay is nearly $4 million and is also funded through the 2021 bond.

During construction, both Jones and Lipscomb urge drivers to be aware of construction crews as they are working on the roadway. Should a motorist encounter any safety issues or concerns, Lipscomb says they can report it to the city online.

“Please slow down,” Lipscomb said. “There are construction activities sometimes a foot or two from heavy vehicular traffic.”
