Plano to temporarily close Davis Library for bond construction project

Plano will temporarily close Davis Library Dec. 4 to finish a $5.3 million renovation project that has been underway since April. The library, located at 7501 Independence Parkway, is scheduled to reopen in the spring, according to the city website.

The renovation project is part of a bond measure approved by city voters in 2017. Plano Library Director Libby Holtmann said the biggest changes patrons will see when Davis Library reopens are more usable spaces and new lighting.

“The children’s area has doubled in size,” she said via email. “There will be two large program rooms available for public use. Across the breezeway in the joint-use facility, there will be study rooms and collaborative work spaces.”

The additional spaces will be a “huge benefit” to the library’s patrons, she said.

“Davis Library has consistently seen a high demand for study space and collaborative workspace,” Holtmann said via email. “The improved children’s area will offer families much more room to browse materials and engage in hands-on learning activities.”

While it is closed, Davis Library’s staff members will be transferred to Plano’s other city libraries.

The same bond measure is also funding a renovation project at Harrington Library that began last month.

"We are delighted that Plano residents voted to approve these two bond projects in 2017," Holtmann said via email. "The additions to both libraries will benefit the community for years to come."
