The Children’s Medical Center Foundation announced a $500,000 donation from the Jordan Spieth Family Foundation on Sept. 28 that will support the expansion to Children’s Medical Center Plano with a focus on pediatric oncology.
The goal of the donation is to fund programs that offer direct care to children fighting cancer as well as their families. This support includes emotional and social therapies, child life services, familial respite and avenues to overcome financial burdens upon diagnosis, according to a news release.
“Annie and I are very grateful to the incredible oncology staff at Children’s Health for their lifesaving work,” Jordan Spieth said in a statement. “We have a personal connection to pediatric cancer and to this hospital specifically. And while we hope research continues to make this issue nonexistent in the future, for now, our focus is on improving each family’s experience as much as possible.”
In recognition of this gift, which is the largest granted to any organization from the foundation, the family support lounge will be named the Jordan Spieth Family Foundation Lounge. This lounge will be located in the newly expanded Pauline Allen Gill Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children’s Medical Center Plano, according to the release. The lounge is designed to provide respite for the family of patients.
