Plano City Council is taking public comment for its $0.15 per square-foot assessment for Downtown Plano commercial property owners.
Residents interested in participating can attend an upcoming public hearing Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. at the Plano Municipal Center.

The Downtown Public Improvement District is made up of 40.86 acres with properties along 14th Street, 15th Street, J Avenue, K Avenue, L Avenue and Municipal Avenue per city documents.
The city is expected to get $327,526 in revenue for fiscal year 2026-27 from its $0.15 per square-foot assessment, which is the same as last year, revenue from marketing and contributions and leftover funds from the previous year per city documents. The improvement district uses these funds to support downtown events, festivals and beautification efforts in public areas according to the city.
The city is planning to use more funds for marketing and security for improvement efforts in downtown Plano than the previous year per city documents, and is expected to spend less on events and city administration.
The background
The current version of the public improvement district was approved by Plano City Council in February 2023, according to city documents, and is ending in 2033. The improvement district was first created by the city in 2014, according to the city.
