New traffic signals and a no parking zone will be implemented in Plano after approval from city council at a meeting Sept. 28.
What’s changed
The city is adding new traffic signals at the following intersections:
Coit Road and Stonewood Drive
Custer Road and Kathryn Lane
Bluebonnet Trail and Custer Road
Spring Creek Parkway and Lookout Trail
Plano Parkway and N Avenue
Plano Parkway and Bradshaw Drive
The traffic signals at SH121 and Spring Creek Parkway will also see modifications from this project, per city documents.
Engineering services for the new signals will be done by LJA Engineering, Inc., a national business that specializes in public works and land development projects among other areas. The business has also worked on other projects in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, per city documents. The city has allocated $468,599 for utility exploration, preliminary design, final design and construction-related engineering services.
Plano Traffic Engineer Chad Ostrander said designs for the new lights are estimated to take a year with bids for construction to start around August 2027.
Also of note
The city is implementing a new no parking zone near Hendrick Middle School along Greenfield Drive. The school currently has no parking zones along Red River Drive west of the school, per city documents.
The new zone would prevent on-street parking from obstructing carpool operations at the school, according to city documents, which normally start from a driveway on Red River Drive and exit on Greenfield Drive. Plano ISD staff notified the city that parents would often park on this street during dismissal.
