'Scrooge, The Musical' returns for its 12th year in Plano with 12 performances

North Texas Performing Arts will once again offer its annual Christmas show “Scrooge, The Musical” this holiday season in conjunction with the city of Plano.

Darrell Rodenbaugh of Plano will be back for his 12th year playing the title role as Scrooge.

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to come back to this role and am energized by Scrooge’s very special message of rebirth and redemption,” Rodenbaugh said in a news release. “It teaches us that we have the opportunity to start our lives all over again and change for the better, and I consider it our second greatest Christmas story.”

The musical follows the plot of Charles Dickens’ book, A Christmas Carol, according to the show notes. Ten shows open to the public are scheduled between Dec. 8-18. Two more shows will be invite-only as a holiday gift to local veterans and families in need, according to the release.

The final show this year, on Dec. 18, will mark the 100th performance for the cast and crew since the nonprofit North Texas Performing Arts began the tradition in 2011.

Mike Mazur, who was part of the cast for several seasons, is back again as the show's director.

“Most rewarding is when audience members tell us that they come back to see 'Scrooge' year after year to get them into the Christmas spirit,” Mazur said in the release. “This year will be special with Darrell’s 100th bow. He has brought the role to life so many times, and each year he keeps it new, fresh and bigger and better than the year before.”

Shows are scheduled for Dec. 8-11 at The Courtyard Theater in Plano and Dec. 15-18 at the Rodenbaugh Theater at the Willow Bend Center of the Arts.
