Celebrations for Martin Luther King Jr. in Plano, Collin County continue virtually

Members of the Plano MLK Celebration Committee organized a virtual church service with Come.Unity for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The service is planned for 6 p.m. Jan. 17 and can be viewed on the Collin County MLK Facebook page.

Jan. 18: fourth annual Collin County Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Appreciation Day Virtual Service

This one-hour service will be livestreamed beginning at noon and will follow the theme of "The 1963 Birmingham Campaign," per a December release from the service. Minnie's Food Pantry founder Cheryl Jackson will emcee the event as winners of the first annual Carson Mm. Doss Legacy Scholarship Art Contest and recipients of the 2021 Collin County MLK Drum Major Award, Dr. E.T. Boon and Diana Dues, are recognized. There will also be musical selections from member choirs and speakers from the service committee's co-chairs and pastors from Plano and Allen. The event can be viewed on the MLK Day Collin County Facebook page.

Jan. 18-22: Plano ISD 2021 Martin Luther King Jr., Virtual Diversity Celebration

A weeklong Plano ISD Celebrating Together event will highlight student winners of district Martin Luther King Jr., writing and art contests; diversity leadership award recipients and nominees; and speech, music and dance performances by students. PISD's 2020 Teachers of the Year will also share inspirational messages. This is the district's 34th annual celebration of Martin Luther King Jr., a celebration created in the 1980s. Digital content for the celebration will be shared to PISD's webpage, as well as its social accounts.
