A portion of Legacy Trail at Ohio Drive and Wildbriar Drive will be reopening July 24.
Part of the trail was closed since June 29 for a main pipeline replacement project from the North Texas Municipal Water District.
The gist
The district is working on a $10.8 million project to replace roughly 12,500 linear feet of 30-inch and 36-inch force main pipelines from Preston Road Lift Station to about 1,500 feet west of Coit Road.
The city of Plano gave the district permission to close a portion of the trail to complete some of the project that goes under the Ohio Drive bridge, according to the district. NTMWD Communications Manager Kathleen Vaught said the remaining spur trail to Ohio Drive is planned to reopen in the second week of August.
Vaught said this is the last planned trail closure for the project, but one more closure may take place when the district installs a bypass pipe under the bridge as the project reaches completion.
The background
Vaught said construction for the pipe replacement project started last year and is expected to be completed later this fall. Plano City Council approved easements for the project in April 2024. Improvements at the Preston Road Lift Station will increase pumping capacity as demand for sewer services increases, per previous reporting.
The project is fully funded by the NTMWD, Vaught said.
