The Plano Police Department will address the dangers of fentanyl use during a public forum March 30 at the Plano Event Center, located at 2000 E. Spring Creek Parkway.
The free event is set to start at 6:30 p.m. and is designed to provide information about the drug as well as community resources to help prevent overdoses and deaths. Panelists at the March 30 event will include:
- Plano Medical Director Dr. Mark Gamber;
- Guy Baker, assistant special agent in charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration;
- John-Mark Meulman, Collin County Substance Abuse Program administrator; and
- PISD Counseling Services Director Laura Zimmer, who is also the parent of a fentanyl victim.
The event is taking place shortly after Sienna Vaughn, a 16-year-old Plano Senior High School student, died due to fentanyl poisoning Feb. 19, according to a letter to parents from Plano ISD last week.
“We recently experienced the tragic loss of one of our beloved Plano ISD students to a deadly fentanyl poisoning,” Superintendent Theresa Williams said in the letter. “I cannot express the sadness and grief that we are all feeling.”
