Plano ISD is exploring the sale process for two district-owned properties.
Trustees tabled a resolution declaring two properties surplus during the Oct. 6 meeting.
The overview
Declaring the properties surplus is the first step in the process for PISD to sell the properties, said Johnny Hill, deputy superintendent for business, employee services and technology.
The first property includes two suites inside the Pebble Creek Professional Building, which were initially acquired for $1.75 million in 2005, Hill said. The property was previously used as a child daycare center, but has been adapted to house district staff. There are about 20 staff members in the suites, according to a district presentation.
“We have, easily, facilities that can house the folks that are actually there on a temporary basis or [the] one group that’s there permanently, but we have a readily available location to relocate those staff.”
The second property is 9.96 acres located at the northeast corner of Coit Road and Frankford Road, which was purchased for nearly $5.21 million in 2015, per the presentation. Hill said PISD bought the property to accommodate future growth, which has since tailed off.
“It is one of the few undeveloped parcels still in that region,” Hill said. “We feel like there will be a lot of interest in this land.”
What’s next
The board is expected to reconsider a resolution to declare the properties surplus at the Oct. 27 meeting after board President Lauren Tyra had questions about the location of the property near Coit and Frankford. Tyra said that the resolution listed the property in Dallas, but the presentation stated the 9.96-acre property is in Plano.
