A new burger place, Patty Lou’s Smashburgers, opened in mid-July in Plano.
The history
The latest concept from Urban Family is themed after Patty Lou and the Texas Sweethearts, an all-female western swing group that traveled through US 66 in the late 40s and 50s.
Bonnie Shea is the co-owner and daughter of Patty Lou. She said their latest restaurant is a tribute for her mom.
“They literally got in my mom’s convertible and they drove,” Shea said.
The restaurant has a road map mural of Patty Lou’s travels going from Chicago to California and offers displays of memorabilia like Patty Lou’s original guitar, Shea said. It also offers a jukebox that plays some old and new country music.
What they offer
Bonnie’s husband and co-owner Nathan Shea said Patty Lou offers burgers made with Texas wagyu from their ranch.
“The flavor of the meat, the way we smash it,” Nathan said, “Everything is done the old-fashioned way.”
Patty Lou’s has fresh-cut fries and offers onion rings from scratch. Customers can also order milkshakes at the restaurant. Bonnie said the restaurant also has a vintage Coke machine.
The background
Urban Family is also tied to Plano restaurants like Urban Rio Cantina & Grill and Urban Seafood Company.
Nathan said the location for Patty Lou’s is the same space of the former Starbucks Plano Ice House he and Bonnie managed before it closed in 2024.
