New retail development could be coming to a former Kroger location in north Plano.
What you need to know
A preliminary site plan calls for improvements to the former Kroger building at 9700 Coit Road for reuse as a fitness center, according to city documents. The plan also includes two new retail buildings on the 9.7-acre lot at the southeast corner of Coit Road and SH 121.
Plano’s Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously recommended approval of the plan at its April 20 meeting.
The Kroger closed Jan. 23, 2025, and was replaced by the Kroger Marketplace store across the street at 9617 Coit Road.
The applicant, Kroger Texas LP, also requested a reduction in the required landscape space to facilitate the construction of two right-turn lanes on Coit Road, the documents state.
“When this site was originally developed in 2004, a 30-foot-wide landscape edge was provided along Coit Road,” Plano Associate Planner Ana Sutter said. “No right turn lanes were required under the standards in effect at that time. With the new buildings proposed, construction of two right-turn lanes are now required.”
What's next
The project will be on a future City Council agenda for final approval.
