Plano City Council approves plan for neighborhood development with up to 26 new homes

Up to 26 new single-family homes will be coming to Plano after City Council approved a new development on the corner of 15th Street and M Avenue.

The development called Elmwood Park was approved 8-0 by council as part of a zoning request at its Jan. 10 meeting. The development will be built on a lot that was previously used as a parking lot for the First Baptist Church building across the street.

An exact construction timeline has not yet been announced.

The church relocated to a new location Sept. 12 at 3665 W. President George Bush Turnpike. The lot is surrounded by other single-family neighborhoods and city officials said that made it a good candidate for the proposed development.

The city’s new comprehensive plan, which passed Nov. 8, lists adding more housing across the city as a long-term priority.

The new development will have a minimum lot size requirement of 3,000 square feet with a maximum building height of 38 feet. Plano’s Director of Planning Christina Day said the new houses will conform to the “look and feel” of the surrounding neighborhoods.

“I do like the design,'' Council Member Rick Grady said. “I think it will enhance the entire area.”

A representative from Elmwood Park said the new homes will all have front porches facing the street.
